A Risograph-printed pop-up map depicting an arial view of Orlando, Chain of Lakes explores a personal memory of the shapes, colors and textures of planned neighborhoods, horse fields and freshwater lakes near the airport as my plane landed. Central Florida boasts over 500 lakes which beautify and define both affluent and working-class neighborhoods.

This sequence of contour line drawings and incomplete travel notes presents a fragmented narrative about the flawed nature of memory. Created with materials from a 2013 residency in southwestern Iceland, revisiting my observations years later feels strange; the language seems specific and vague, concrete and ethereal, personal and universal. The vivid greens and blues evoke the vivid mosses and turquoise glacial waters we saw on our travels.

Arboretum is a fictional narrative inspired by visits to Aboretum Mörk in Hallormsstaður Forest near Egilsstaðir, Iceland in 2022. Forests are fairly rare in Iceland. Between the harsh climate, the impact of agriculture and frequent volcanic eruptions, it isn’t an ideal climate for large trees, so it was a delight to find them.
