Wonders of the Sea, 2006
Wonders of the Sea explores the eclecticism of marine forms and the fragility of ocean ecosystems. A collection of 98 mixed media works on paper, this work includes deliberate references to eighteenth century “curiosity” collections like that of pharmaceutical scientist Albertus Seba, prompting the viewer to ponder our past and present relationships with the sea. The collection was started at the Red Cinder artists residency in Hawaii, and was inspired by field trips to the green sand beach nearby.
Each piece was created on heavyweight printmaking paper with collage, printmaking, drawing, painting and found materials. They range in size from 7” x 5” to 14” x 12”
This page shows selected pieces from the collection of 98 works.
